November 21, 2008 The Global Nanoscale Science and Engineering Education (GNSEE) community assembled on November 13 & 14, 2008 for the third annual workshop co-sponsored by the NCLT ( www.nclt.us ) and the National Science Foundation ( www.nsf.gov ) to explore the opportunities for and challenges of communicating nanoscale science and engineering (NSE) to students, educators, and the general public. We were honored this year to have 140 participants from 14 different countries in attendance in Washington DC. In addition, over 120 people from all around the world registered to watch the workshop via webcast from their own institutions. Each day more and more people continue to log in to watch the archived versions. The invite only workshop featured high profile speakers such as Sir Harold Kroto, Nobel Laureate, 1996 who gave an engaging, interactive presentation on number patterns and how they are interrelated with science. James Hone, Columbia University and Teri Odom, Northwestern University gave exciting talks on cutting-edge nano concepts such as Graphene Research and Nanopatterning Research, respectively. We also heard international perspectives from representatives from countries such as Mexico, Japan, Germany, Sweden and France.
